Last minute information on A nice evening with the family

Dear Participants,

A week to the premier we have some last minute information to you all.

A free spot
We have a few spots left on the game, and since we think the games will be better for you all if the they are full we are offering all current participants an extra spot on another game for free.

All you need to do is e-mail anders@sverok.se which extra game you want to play on. And if there is an open spot for your gender on that game we will reserve it for you and inform you about it. There are about 20 places left, so first come, first serve.

Game 1, 17 – 19/8: 3 Male and 1 female
Game 2, 19 – 21/8: 3 Female, 1 male or female spot
Game 3, 21 – 23/8: 8 Female, 4 male and 2 male or female spots
Game 4, 23 – 25/8: 2 Female, 2 male

Please be specific in you mail what game you want to play in. For example:
“I would like an extra spot, prefebly on game 3, but if that’s not possible game 1”

If you have a friend that haven’t signed up yet, they can go to our website and sign up the usual way and pay the entrance fee just as you all did. Remember that you can still get the SEK 500 fee reduction if you recruit a friend.

The after party/evalutation
We have about 100 guests signed up for the after party/evaluation. We will not have beds for you all. Bring sleeping bags and what you need if you end up sleeping on the floor. The participants of the forth game who will keep their beds and can therefore stick with their bed linen. We will have food for dinner and breakfast, but for drinks – bring your own.

We had another question, and below my answer in case you wonder as well.

I wanted to check something about the game. I am bit unclear on the
instructions a little - do we actually have to learn our lines from the play
that we are in? It doesnt say in the instructions anywhere that we are going
to be performing the play at all?

Hi,

What will happen is that you will read the play in your group and then
you will analys the play and what your carachar will do in the
different acts. For example in act one my carracter will talk to yours
and reveal a secret. Then we both know that we are soppose to have
this konversation in act one (before 7 o'clock) and we can both try to
find a way to play so that we can make that scene happen.
When we do the scene we can use lines from the play, that we happend
to remember, or that we thougt fitted in the play. But it's not
nessesary. The important thing is that we have the scene and my role
tell your role my secret so your can act on it futher along in the
game. So if you want to learn some lines, feel free, but it's not
nessersary.
So you are not accually gone preform the play, thou preformance
indicate an audiance, which we don't have, you are guest at Helges 60
years birthday party. So you will be the guest and sing for him, and
talk politly with people that you meet and so on. But you will also
have theese different actions to do with your fellow players.

I hope this makes thing a bite more clear for you, and I see you in august.

stay around?

We sometimes get’s letter like this one nowdays:

”Hi,
I’m a very nice friendly participant, and I just discovered something:

I’m arraving, to early
/I want to stick around the next game to be able to go to the after-party
/or any other good reason.

and I was wondering:

Is it possible that I can stay for another game?”

This would be our answer for now:

No, we’re sorry. Follökna isn’t that big and we want to be able to focus on the participants and don’t want other people hanging around.

But, we haven’t filled all spots yet and Friday the 10th of august we will release them for free to you participants. So anyone that is already signed up and paid will be able to e-mail us and get another spot on another game. This is because we think you’re experiance will be better with full game, so we will do everything to fill them. But there will not be enough room for everyone, so first come, first serve. We will send you an e-mail and then you will be able to reply. Only then they spots will be free for you, our participants.

I also be possible that people become sick and don’t show up and then we will need people to fill up there places, but this we will know just before the games starts, so then it will be up to you if you want to take a chance and stick around hoping that we will have a spot. But it we don’t you’ll have to leave.

Another possibility is that we will discover that we need some extra staff to do something for us, that we haven’t thought of now. But this, of course, as well, will we know of very late.

Festen and what to bring more

I hope you all have gotten your books, and roles right now, and that you are all very happy.

Why we didn't include the celebration (Festen) in the book is because of that we didn't get premission to do it from Tomas Vinterberg's publisit. But it does exists as a manuscript and we will have them at the larp.

In the Swedish version we will have the interpetation done by a Swedish theater (Dramaten, in Stockholm) and in the Enlish game we will have av version done by David Eldridge that is avaliable at amazon.com. If you want to, you can also borrow a copy from us oragnizers of both the Swedish and English one. Just send us a mail.


Stuff to bring
Besides what it says in the information booklet, it can be a good idea to bring:
A digital camera (this is modern time)
Wedingrings. - if you are a married carchater, bring a fake weding-ring. In Stockholm you can buy male ones at Punkt shop for 39 SEK and female ones at Glitter for 59 SEK.
Then of course your litterary compendium, bedlinnen and some money for the bar.

All larps has it’s fortress…

… as in something big, and that takes to much work, that you usually didn’t expect it would. You will get ours in your letterbox this week. I posted it for the first game today. To morrow, when the printing machine at Sverok Stockholm has been repaired, I will post letters to the rest of you.
This will also be the only secret of this larp, basically because we wasn’t sure we could pull it of. But we did. See your mail-box later this week.

That is also why it’s been a bite quite here. But now I’m back. There have been some updates on the webpage in case you haven’t notice. Read under “The story” and “practical matters”.

I’m also proud to present three new people to the logistisks; Caroline Andersson, Fredrik von Post och Frida Åhlvik.

The saga continues

We just had another directors week-end where we summarized the results of all our different ideas and we have now a quite clear picture on what the larp will look like. This is going to be so much fun, it’s just to join the ride. Now all the directors are choosing plays and will really dig deep down into one play.

We also test cooked the diner, and we all agreed that the food was really good.

Me, I’m working with to get the plays in print for you so that you all can read them if you want before. I’m also working with the logistic people, to make kitchen and stuff like that work as it should.

And most fun we are doing the saga behind the larp, drawing treads between the different plays; These two are sisters, she is his ex and bitter wife, and who is the countess’s lover? These are all very interesting questions.

And of course, we are working on the information you will receive after the 30th of june.

A different way of assigning roles

As we all know A nice evening with the family is based on 7 plays. The characters of these will be the characters the participants will enact during the game. When working with the plays the project managers have noticed that it is easier to reach a deeper and broader understanding of the plays when you have not already aware of which character you will be playing. We have therefore decided that game number two will have a different way of assigning the roles. The roles for game two will not be sent to the players beforehand, instead they will be given after the different play-groups have done a reading and an initial interpretation of their respective plays.

If anyone want to change to or from game two because of this difference you are more than welcome to contact Anders Hultman on the e-mail address sent to you in your confirmation e-mail.

Past 100 participants

A few days ago our 100:th participant signed up. There are still spots left on all four games but the male roles are running out on game one and four. In late June we will start randomizing the roles to players.

We had the most wonderful directors week-end. We’d been developing lot’s of techniques and ideas for how to transform the plays to larp, and maximise your experience, and now we tried them on new people. And it actually went great. Some they liked, and some they didn’t and came up with great ideas for how to develop further.
So now we have a hole bunch of new directors that now know what the project is about. We proudly present to you the new directors; Daniel Krauklis, Karin Tidbeck, Fredrik Axelzon, Emma Öhrström, Martin Brodén and Joel Östlund

As you can see on the photos we also had a wonderful time in the sun at Anna-Karins grandparents’ summerhouse. Thanks to them that we could be there!

News!

We have closed down the sign-up-system for now and are working on to get it online. Our webmaster has a lot on his table at the moment.

On the positive side we have been granted 15 000 SEK (~1500 Euro) from Gunvor and Josef Anérs foundation.

We are also out and doing publicity for the larp. Right now me and Anders are at Sverok's(Swedens national gaming organisation) annual meeting and among lot’s of other thing talking about the larp with people from all over the country. Tobias on the other hand is in Italy at a gaming convention taking about the larp there.

Last Thursday we had a meeting and organised the different techniques, see all the photos. It might not look as that but, we actually structured them. We are going to have a week-end in May with all the directors to try out the exercises and teach the directors everything about the larp. It shall be very interesting and fun!

So I have no doubt there will be a great larp, and are very happy for all the sign ups!

Problems with the sign up system

We have some problems with the sign up system right now, but we are working on it. The most important thing is that if you signed up and didn't receive any conformation that you are signed up, you are not signed up. We have not received your information details.
We are working so that the system should be online soon and sign up will be possible again.

Money and more

We been granted 45000 DKK from Nordic culture foundation!

That’s approximately 55000 SEK or 5500 Euro. That’s great!

This also encourages us to seek more Nordic participants. There are still some places left on the international game (especially females!).

I was also interview in the National Swedish game association magazine; “Signaler” which arrived yesterday. And in May I will be interview by the Magazine; “Teaterforum” of the National Swedish amateur-theatre association. So the more information about the larp is spreading.

Right now I’m looking forward to Thursday where we will have a meeting and plan the upcoming directors-week-end. All the directors will try out and evaluate the methods that we have developed for the larp.

We have counted that, we will have you participants for 41 hours totally (8 PM first day – 1PM third day), and I have to warn you; they will be very intense. We have loads of ideas what to do.

It shall be great fun!

The game is half full or half empty

The game is now half full or half empty depending on how you wish to look at it. We have filled 81 of the 160 spots in the six weeks we have been open for sign up. If we keep this up we will be full by the last of May.

The first and last games are all but filled on males spots and we have begun filling the second and third game aswell. There are still a few female spots left in game one and four.

We've invited Thomas Vinterberg to the project and this is what he has replyed:

"Dear Anna Westerling

The project, or game, that you are describing sounds challenging and very interesting. I like your desire to explore new territory and I am sure it will be fruitful.

Unfortunately exploring Celebration in different forms is no longer new territory for me. Maybe the best known territory for me, of all. Therefore I can't participate my self, but only wish you the best of luck.

I am aware this is not about Celebration as such, and that other plays are as present, but still... Celebration is history for me now. Like a son, who has grown up, and is taking better care of himself now.

I think it's a very vise answer, and my respect for him grows. So we will have some days spending some time with he's grown son.

Julafton varje dag!

Anmälan har öppnats och det är jättekul att se när anmälningarna tickar in. Anmälningarna går inte till mig, utan till Anders, och så får arrangörsgruppen ett mail varje kväll med dagens skörd och då är det julafton. Det är jättekul att se vilka som anmält sig nu och vad de har skrivit för något i övrigt delen.
Det är som julafton, fast det finns inga dåliga paket eller släktingar man måste låtsas att tycka om och berätta om sitt liv i kulörta färger för. Utan alla paket är lika önskade och lika roliga.

På de knappa 3 dygn som anmälan har varit offentlig har vi fått in 30 anmälningar från 6 olika nationaliteter. Det känns jättecoolt att det är så många som tror på det och vill vara med. Ni som läser detta - fortsätt att sprida ordet. Man blir ju lätt lite hög av att det går så bra, men det är fortfarande en del platser kvar att fylla så vi jobbar på med det. Jag har bland annat skickat pressmeddelande till alla teatertidningar i Sverige, och jag tycker att i alla fall någon borde vara intresserad. :-)

Kärnfamiljen

Det här lajvet handlar ju om att diskutera familjen och hur dess strukturer påverkar oss som individer.
Det handlar också om att diskutera kvinnans ställning. Det är ingen slump att vi valt pjäser som Ett Dockhem och Sanna kvinnor som båda diskuterar kvinnans situation i äktenskapet. Frågan är ju om det har hänt någon sen Nora slog igen dörren och lämnade Torvald i slutet av 1800-talet?

Vi rullar vidare!

Jag har ägnat helgen åt att göra en massa PR för lajvet. I fredags var jag och Natalie (som har gjort all grafik till lajvet) och såg på teater på baren Carpe Noctem och passade på efteråt på att göra reklam för lajvet bland skådisar och andra. Vi såg I Stand Before You Naked av Joyce Carol Oates och det var riktigt bra. För vårt tema vill jag speciellt nämna den lyckliga mäklaren. En kvinna som berättade om hur lycklig hon var, och hur välordnat hennes liv var och hur allt var bra. För varför skulle det inte vara det?

För er som vill gå och titta spelar de fram till och med söndagen den 11 och mer info finns på: www.carpenoctem.nu. Överhuvudtaget kan jag rekommendera den baren. Den drivs av en kille som hållit på mycket med teater och vill ” skapa en smältdegel av olika musikstilar, livespelningar, teater, och andra sköna events som behöver ett forum att visas upp i.” Det är väl ett schysst syfte om något.

Så i lördags var jag på Sverok Svealands årsmöte och konvent för att tala mer om lajvet. Om målgruppen ovan var teatermänniskor i 20-30 års åldern som är lite skeptiska till lajv, så var målgruppen här en helt annan. Här var det snarare 20 åriga rollspelare och lajvare som mest hållit på med fantasy i hela sitt liv som inte alltid vet om att den här typen av arrangemang finns. Men det var spännande att vara i Karlstad och prata med t ex 20 åriga esteter (som vi säkert inte hade nåt annars) och andra och på så vis sprida ordet.

Nu är jag med andra ord ganska trött. Men jag måste slänga in lite information om en film; Festen förstås. Den ingår i ”The dogma collection 1-4 som finns att köpa på nätfilmhandlare och annat. Jag rekommenderar Buylando (http://www.buylando.se/) , de är billigast, med ett pris på 299 kr.
Hur som. I samlingen finns även andra dogma filmer, men framförallt 28 minuter bortklippt material till Festen. Det ger en djupare förståelse, och vissa karaktärer får en djupare historia. Man ser också visa tanker fullt utvecklade, som man bara skymtar i filmen. Samtidigt är det ju som vanligt med bortklippt material. Att man kan förstå varför det blev bortklippt. Men fortfarande helt klart värt och se.

Knudepunkt

Så kul är det på Knudepunkt!

Nyss hemkomna från den nordiska lajvkonferensen Knudepunkt i Danmark är vi alla glada, men trötta. Vi hade en lajvpresentation i bästa cooktail-party anda med pjäsläsning, salta pinnar, vin och en massa diskussion om metatekniker för lajvet. Jag tycker det gick bra, och folk vara intresserade och frågade mycket etc. Vi spred också en massa flyers så det känns som det inte kommer vara några problem att fylla fjärde spelet med internationella gäster.

Å på det hela taget hade vi jättekul.

Så här ser det ut när vi diskuterar metod. Vi är på gång att sätta ord på mycket av det vi vill göra, men det är knepigt, då det är så mycket mer komplicerat att förklara vad vi menar än att göra det "på golvet" med kroppar och verklighet. Det blir lätt otroligt snårigt, och Chefen Anna får något panikartat i blicken. Som tur är så rycks hon ofta med av våra vilda förklaringar, och lyckas få ner oss på jorden igen. Det blir ett slags mellanting, en kompromiss ofta, en sansad galenskap.



Mumintrollen har inget med detta att göra. Jag såg dem i ett skyltfönster och tänkte på projektet.
Nu stundar knutepunkt i Danmark.

Tyskland

Jag har varit i Tyskland, på Mittelpunkt, och pressenterat En stilla middag. Den ligger väldigt långt ifrån tyskt lajv. Någon sa till och med att det inte var lajv. Men några var också intresserade och gav mig deras e-mail och sa maila när du vet mer. På det hela taget var det kul att göra en presentation och jag tror jag engagerade folk, eller åtminstone visade dem ett nytt sätt att göra lajv på. Jag tror det kommer att komma några tyskar, vilket vore ballt.

Ikväll hade vi ett möte med arrangörscrewen. Det är alltid så kul och inspirerande. Alla har lite olika idéer och de bollas friskt. Nu börjar vi skapa rollerna, och vi börjar binda ihop pjäserna och skapa relationer mellan karaktärer som är med i olika pjäser.

När man tittar på rollerna inser man också något intressant. Trots att de här pjäserna är skrivna av olika människor vid olika tidpunkter finns det några gemensamma nämnare. Av ca 43 roller finns det:
2 söner som är konstnärer
4 av 5 servitriser som har, ska få eller har haft ihop det med någon av herrarna i huset.
1 av 3 servitörer som ska få ihop det med en dam.
6 patriarker (minst)
Det finns också både en doktor och en präst för att göra den borgliga skalan komplett.

Jag avslutar kvällen med ett citat:
Fru Alving säger: ”Det är inte bara det vi ärvt från mor och far som går igen i oss. Det är alla möjliga gamla döda åsikter och allsköns gammal död tro och dylikt. Det är inte levande i oss men sitter kvar i alla fall och vi blir aldrig kvitt det”

Sverok Stockholm

Idag fick vi beviljat 30 000 kr i bidrag från Sverok Stockholm. Hurra!

Fast det roligaste är var nog att sitta tillsammans med styrelsen, som satt sig in i ens ansökan och tycker att ens projekt är bra, roligt och kommer att ge de effekterna man vill. De tror på idéen, och få egna idéer och vinklar. Människor som blir entusiastiska av ens idé.

Men sen är ju 30 000 inte fel heller.

Nytt år! Ny blogg!

Utsikt från salongen mot sjön.

Den har bloggen är tänkt att vara projektet En stilla middag med familjens produktions-blogg. Här kommer jag att skriva och berätta om hur arbetet fortgår. Alla viktig information kommer att publiceras på hemsidan, och här kommer bara att gå att läsa om bakom arbetet. Lite som bakgrundsmaterialet i Sagan om ringen-filmerna. Man vill hellre se filmen (läsa hemsidan/lajvet) än att se bakgrundsmaterialet (bloggen), men det kan vara ganska kul att se det också.

Nog om det.

Här finns det gott om plats för oss att lajva, och den ligger jättevackert vid vattnet. Det finns gott om sängar, så alla kommer få sova i en säng. Lokalen ger också den här familjekänslan, att man måste sträcka på ryggen och bete sig för familjen.

Annars har jag ägnat jullovet åt att skriva bidragsansökningar. Det är roligt, men man blir lite miljöskadad. Det här lajvet kommer att ge så mycket, världsfred, kultur och skor åt barnen. Inte riktigt. Däremot tror jag (på riktigt) att det kommer ta lajvrörelsen framåt och möjliggöra för oss att skapa något nytt som kanske kan bli ett frö för att kunna göra lajv för en större publik och etablera det som konstform. Jag tror också att vi kommer att skapa en kontaktyta där deltagare träffas och på så vis får möjlighet att komma på nya idéer, inte minst genom efterfesten. Jag ska fortsätta med mina ansökningar, och skicka in dem också.

Likaså börjar regiarbetet gå framåt. Det är intressant att se våra olika bakgrunder som nu börjar visa sig när vi diskuterar roller, story etc. Anna-Karin beskrev det en gång för länge sen som teateranarki. Det är det nog, men jag tror det kommer bli bra när det är klart.

Det här kommer bli så bra. De familjetragedier och sociala mönster som sipprar ut ur den här soppan är inte att leka med (eller så är det precis det de är).

Arne Törnqvist skriver i förordet till Gengångare: ”Även om den offentliga lögnens innehåll inte riktigt är de samma som på Ibsens tid så är dess mekanismer alltid desamma: förträngningen, förtrycket och idealiseringen av de dolda motiven.”
